Rivka a marketing leader in the Grand Rapids, MI area (and beyond) sat down with  A Solution B,LLC to share her story.  Struggling with mental health, trauma and other major life events may have rocked the boat, but it definitely did not hold Rivka back.

Read below to learn why Rivka is an Overcomer .

Q)Rivka you have started a business, as well as, a women’s networking group, Unstoppable Women. Can you share a bit about your business and what inspired you to do this?

A) My business is social media marketing and business development. It has evolved over time for sure! My goals, and even the business itself has changed. The thing that hasn’t changed though is that I wanted to create a life without limits. When I worked for someone else, I was always able to go so far, and then no further. My successes, my ability to experiment and learn, my income, and my work itself was always limited by the vision and goals of my boss. Having my own business I am never bored. I am able to learn and grow daily. I have been able to accomplish things that I could not have imagined when I got started!

Q) You’ve briefly shared with me things you’ve experienced such as  homelessness, childhood trauma and poverty, as well as a diagnosis of anxiety and depression. How did these impact your decision to pursue your business?

A)One thing that was important to me, especially as I became a mom, was to provide my children a better life than I had, and to be able to give back to others and make the world a better place. Having my own business allows me to create space for me to take care of myself, and to take care of others.

Because I can create my business around my strengths, I am able to be very successful despite the fact that I still live with anxiety and depression. This has allowed me to minimize their effects on my life, and be able to do so much more for others as well.

My children are growing up being able to reach their potential because they have a mom with a flexible schedule who can be there for them, and also provide for them financially. Without my business, none of this would be possible.

Q) What were you most hesitant about and how did you deal with it to become the proactive and successful person you are today?

A) I don’t remember being really hesitant per se. Once I realized that business ownership was the only path to reach my goals of financial success and freedom to be a mom and help other people, it was a decision that I just had to make it work one way or another. The biggest challenges have been learning when to say no, and how to make sure that I don’t forget to take care of myself too.

Q) What have you learned about yourself in this process and what is something you desire to work on further?

A) I have learned that I am so much stronger than I give myself credit for. I have learned that I am an amazing problem solver. The biggest thing I need to work on is giving myself as much grace as I give others. I have very little tolerance with myself for mistakes, and can be too hard on myself sometimes.

Q) Rivka you’ve provided so much insight with the founder of A Solution B, LLC due to your business. Based on your own experiences and diagnosis what do you find most appealing about A Solution B that you wish others knew?

A)It is okay to ask for help. Often, we are taught this feeling that if we don’t do it on our own then it doesn’t count. But the reality is, that the synergy between things and people that bring about the best in the world. Being willing to ask for help when I need it, and accept it when it is offered, has been one of the most important areas of growth for both me and my business. If you are trying to work through trauma, don’t feel that you have to do it alone. As isolating as it feels, finding an amazing counselor like at A Solution B can help you realize that you have someone who is there for you, and that recovery is possible. Don’t wait! Do everything in your power to get support, because it will make you more able to help others in the future, and because you deserve to be happy and have joy!

Q) What would you share with someone who is thinking about making a similar step as you have?

A)You can do it! There will be bumps along the way - that is normal. You might try things that don’t work. That is normal too. Find a community of people who are already doing what you want to do that is supportive and helpful. Take the time to provide yourself with a financial buffer if you can, so that you can make decisions based on what is best for your business long-term, rather than what you feel like you have to do because of money. And don’t give up!

Rivka is a survivor. She has found her solution to "pass the torch" to those whom she comes in contact with. It seems, she hasn't allowed her adversity to define who she is or to stop her from reaching her goals. Not only is she aware of her strengths...she's not afraid to admit there are areas in her life she can enhance. This doesn't make her weak, it makes her human.  It makes her... an Overcomer.

It's a new year, making a commitment to be more compassionate towards yourself is a goal many can work towards...to be an Overcomer... to be like Rivka.
