In The Beginning
When I was first presented with the opportunity to experience Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture, I was both curious and hesitant.
You ask why? Curious to see what the experience would feel like and to know exactly how the minuscule needles are going to “turn my life around”…hesitant because…well…they are…needles.
How ironic, to use the terms relaxing and needles in the same sentence.
When I hear the word needles, I tend to picture a doctor carrying a large syringe with the intentions of penetrating my skin to either release a substance or retrieve my red, liquid “life force” …relaxed by that visual? Neither was I.
But this was different. During my training with National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA), I and my fellow classmates, were informed not only will we learn the technique, practice the technique, but we will also experience this ancient medical technique three times that day to become an ADS (Auricular Detoxification Specialist).
Despite the research presented to the class, I was still skeptical. With the first session, I learned the needles simply penetrated at a superficial level, stimulating a slight pressure. With the majority of the needles, I didn’t feel anything. A few needles led to a quick pinch that went away less than five seconds (These experiences could be different for everyone). By the second procedure, I felt more relaxed. Possibly because I knew what to expect and secondly the initial needle is placed in an area identified as the Sympathic area or Autonomic Point- which assists in making you feel relaxed. By the third procedure that day, I could barely make it through the class. I was so relaxed, evident by the multiple “cat yawns” that followed and a strong desire to put my head down. That night I made it home approximately at 6pm that evening, sat down to recoup, looked at the clock…woke up the next day.
Wow…amazing!!!! I’m a believer! I woke up refreshed…as if I caught up on years’ worth of sleep deprivation. Apparently my Qi needed some fine tuning, which led to the long state of rest and relaxation from five needles in specific points in each ear.
Can I Use It?
Yes you can. This technique is open to the general public. You do not have to be a client at A Solution B to receive this service.
Auricular Acupuncture can be used in both, children and adults. To utilize A Solution B’s services, children age 12 and up must have parental permission to receive this service. Children younger than 12 or adults who have difficulty with needles can utilize an alternative treatment such as magnetic beads or seeds that will be placed on the reverse side of the ear.
So what are your thoughts? Have you experienced acupuncture, of any kind, what was the outcome? Comment below to share your story.
